“5th Beatle” Sir George Martin has Passed Away

Sir George Martin , 90 , passed away on Tuesday 8th March at his home in London. After the record producers death his family thanked “everyone for their thoughts , prayers and messages of support.

The news was broke on Twitter by The Beatles drummer , Ringo Star  leading tributes saying “He will be missed”.

The Beatles were signed by Sir George and produced over 700 records , but he also worked with artists like Dame Shirley Bassey, David and Jonathan and Cilla Black.

In a statement on his website, Sir Paul McCartney said : I have so many wonderful memories of this great man that will be with me forever. He was a true gentleman and like a second father to me. He guided the career of  The Beatles with such skill and good humour that he became a true friend to me and my family. If anyone earned the title of the fifth Beatle it was George.From the day that he gave The Beatles our first recording contract, to the last time I saw him, he was the most generous, intelligent and musical person I've ever had the pleasure to know."

In his life he has received 6 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award and an Oscar nomination for A Hard Days Night  an 2 Ivor Novello Awards.

Sir George received a knighthood when he was 70 in 1969, and in 1999 he was admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
