Course Outline
Bannerman High School is delighted to announce its 9th year of our specialist dance course through its Dance Academy programme. The course allows young people to marry their dance education with their normal school curriculum through specialist training in conjunction with West College Scotland.
The Dance Academy programme is designed to give young boys and girls the opportunity to specialise in dance and use it as the medium to develop confident individuals who will be well equipped to go on to further education in dance.
The Dance Academy will allow young people to build strong technique in a wide range of dance styles through their participation in both Scottish Qualification Awards and Royal Academy of Dance qualifications. They will work towards Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Professional Dance Performance by the end of S6 giving them the platform to progress on to further education or employment within the dance industry. The success of the programme has seen many of our students progress on to careers in dance and many are now working as professionals within the industry.
The Dance Academy will essentially be a 6 year programme with entry through audition in primary 7, taking a total of 20-25 pupils on to the course. The young people would be required to pass exams at the end S2 and again in S4 to progress on to the next phase within the programme and to maintain high standards and motivation levels throughout.
We would like to invite parents/carers along with your son/daughter to our open evening at Bannerman High School on Thursday 2nd March from 5:30pm–6:30pm. This will be an opportunity to find out more about the structure and content of the Dance Academy programme.
All applicants who apply on or before the application deadline on Friday 10th March will be considered and no previous dance training is necessary.
Auditions will take place on Thursday 30th March at Bannerman High School and will be invite only following receipt of your application.

Placing Requests – Please note if you are applying from out with the school’s catchment area you will need to apply for a placing request. A place in the Dance Academy will not guarantee your position in the school therefore we would recommend applying for this prior to auditions
