You are here: Pupil Support > Support for Learning

The Support for Learning department aims at supporting all children with transition into secondary school.   Support is also given to children with specific learning difficulties as well as promoting the learning of the more able pupil.

Support can be provided in a variety of ways, from one to one support to team teaching and in class support.

Some pupils are supported through groups such as the Princes Trust xL group in S3 and S4 and the ‘All Stars’ nurturing group in S1.

The support department staff comprises of specific subject teachers who have an additional qualification in support for learning, a Primary qualified teacher who works within the support department and our associated primary schools and Pupil Support Assistants.

The support department also works with S6 pupils who, participate in a training programme, to enable them to help support S1 pupils for whom reading is a barrier.

All of the groups mentioned above will be expanded on in the following information:

Within the Support for Learning Department a member of teaching staff has responsibility for Primary/Secondary liaison. As well as supporting pupils’ learning in S1 and S2, this teacher spends some time each week in the associate primary schools, working with pupils and teachers across primary six and seven.

Through this process the Support for Learning department aims to build up a good level of knowledge on pupils prior to their transition to Bannerman High. This assists in planning to meet the needs of all pupils in S1.
